Charity Shop Manager Vacancy

The Stort Valley Branch is an independent Branch of the RSPCA, which provides assistance with animal welfare concerns throughout it’s allocated area.

The Branch is opening a charity shop, located in Bishops Stortford , which is open from Monday to Saturday between the hours of 9am and 4.30pm.  The shop will generate income to help cover the cost of the animals in its care, as well as enabling it to provide much needed help towards the cost of veterinary care for pets owned by people facing financial hardship.
We currently have a vacancy for a Manager to help with the running of the shop.

The successful applicants will be required to work 4 to 5 days per week, which will include some weekends. The vacancy is initially for a 3 month contract. They will also be required to ensure that their duties are carried out in accordance with current legislation and the policies and procedures set by the Branch.
Duties will include: –
* Taking responsibility for the shop premises, ensuring it is kept clean, safe, tidy
* Ensure that all departments are displayed appropriately
* Be responsible for the security of the shop
* Maintain an up to date record of all key holders
* To help manage volunteers
* Delegate tasks according to volunteers’ strengths
* Identify training needs and ensure training needs are met
* Maintain a staffing rota, making sure there is adequate shop cover at all times
* Encourage team building and an active involvement in shop activities, as well as the wider activities of the Branch
* Ensure that staff and volunteers adhere to Branch policies
* Maintain an accurate record of attendance of all staff and volunteers
* To operate effective stock management systems to realise the maximum profit possible
* The supervision of sorting, preparation for sale and pricing of stock
* The use of a clear sorting and pricing policy
* The identification, valuation and sale of items that may be of significant resale value
* To enforce a strict stock rotation
* To maintain an attractive window display at all times using the “minimalist” policy
* To ensure a weekly stock take is maintained for all purchased goods
* To undertake promotional events where appropriate
* To aid the generation of donations of stock by encouraging donations direct to the shop
* To complete all administrative duties as required by the Trustees, charity law and trading legislation
* Maintain an accurate account of the shop financial activities, which will include daily reconciling the takings and banking on a daily basis
* Ensuring strict security is applied to unbanked cash at all times
* Communicate figures to the Trustees on a weekly basis
* Communicate any significant unexplained variances in takings to the Trustees as soon as possible
* Achieve sales targets and
* Ensure operating expenses are maintained within budgeted costs
* To attend management meetings, as requested
* To attend any appropriate development training courses
* To undertake any other duties, which may arise and fall logically within the remit of shop manager.
Job Types: Part-time, Contract
Salary: £8.30 per hour raising to £9.50 after 3months
